Theatre and Politics in Contemporary Istanbul
With Members of the BuluTiyatro Collective
Speakers will present their experiences in their small theatre collective BuluTiyatro within the context of recent political history in Turkey. Based on their very own encounters, struggles, challenges, dreams and frustrations, inspirations and silences in Istanbul and Turkey, they will reflect upon and reconsider the notions of commons, urban transformation, the relationship between art and politics, interdisciplinarity and methodology (in both their work in theatre and elsewhere), and the political history of Turkey.
Free and open to the public. Light lunch served. This event is co-sponsored by the Forum for Scholars and Publics and is part of the series, Engaged Theatre and Contemporary Politics in Turkey | November 5-9, 2018, sponsored by the Duke University Middle East Studies Center and Duke University Libraries, with support from a Trent Foundation Grant.
