Creative Site-Making: Trouble, Hope, and Healing
Part of Tift Merritt’s “The Other Side of Hungry River”
In this public conversation moderated by Tift Merritt, artists Anna Schuleit Haber, Deborah Luster, and Nina Angela Mercer discuss their approaches to creating art around sites and stories of violence and healing. They’ll talk about the decisions they make about what projects to undertake, how to manage difficult stories with care, and how questions of audience and purpose affect their artistic work. This conversation is convened as part of a larger set of workshops around Tift Merritt’s project, “The Other Side of Hungry River,” a site specific song cycle and collaborative art project exploring the emotional history of two closed NC mental asylums.
Free and open to the public. Light lunch served. Sponsored by the Forum for Scholars and Publics. This event is made possible by a grant from the Josiah Charles Trent Memorial Foundation Endowment Fund. Images of the Bloom exhibit courtesy of Anna Schuleit Haber.
