Lisa Dillman

Lisa Dillman was raised in southern California and studied Spanish at the University of California, San Diego. During her time there she spent one year at University of Barcelona, and later completed an M.A. in Spanish Literature at Emory before returning to Barcelona to study Catalan. She earned a second M.A. in Literary Translation at Middlesex University in London, where she worked as a commercial translator and teacher for six years before returning to the US in 2001 to join Emory University’s Dept of Spanish and Portuguese, where she remains. Lisa teaches courses in translation, Latinx US and contemporary Spanish-language fiction, and translates from the Spanish, and occasionally Catalan. She has translated over twenty-five books, including most recently Death of a Horse, The Right Intention, August October and Such Small Hands (named one of the best books of 2017 by The Guardian) by Andrés Barba; and Signs Preceding the End of the World (which won the Best Translated Book Award 2016), The Transmigration of Bodies and Kingdom Cons by Yuri Herrera.
