Franklin Cason, Jr.

Franklin Cason, Jr. is an Assistant Professor of the Practice in the Department of Art, Art History & Visual Studies at Duke University. In 2019-2020 he earned a Ph.D. from the University of Florida and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His research explores aesthetics and pragmatism in African-American cinema. His essay, “Symbiopsychotaxiplasticity: Some Takes on William Greaves,” co-authored with Tsitsi Jaji, was recently published in Cultural Studies in a special issue on Theorizing Production. “Beyond Category: Black Souls on Screen,” was published in Black Camera, and “Ghosts and the Machine: When Documenting Past Black Life Haunts its Present,” was published in the documentary journal, World Records.
