Daphne Lamothe

Daphne Lamothe is a 2017-2018 Humanities Writ Large Visiting Faculty Fellow at Duke University, currently working on a book-length study of Black immigrant urbanity in literary and cultural texts. She is an associate professor of Africana Studies at Smith College, where she teaches literature and cultural studies. Her book, Inventing the New Negro: Narrative, Culture, and Ethnography, was runner-up for the MLA’s William Sanders Scarborough Prize in 2009. She has also published widely on the poetics and politics of space and place in Black Atlantic texts.
