The Writings and Music of Eugene Chadbourne

Eugene Chadbourne is a Greensboro, North Carolina based musician, known in part for his early career work at the cutting edge of the New York Avant Garde with luminaries such as John Zorn and Anthony Braxton. Chadbourne’s early aspirations, however, included a career in journalism, and his recent memoir Dreamory proves just as voluminous as his musical output. DIY tour stories and his involvement in Vietnam War-era counterculture and protests feature heavily in Chadbourne’s writings – topics that bring insight to anyone who makes it their life work to resist a seemingly unacceptable social or political state of affairs. This one-of-a-kind, two-part event will bring Chadbourne’s writings and his music together. Part 1 of the event will be a reading/solo performance by Chadbourne of selections from Dreamory with musical interventions. Part II will feature a rare performance of Chadbourne with members of his family band, the 13 society.

Doors open at 6:30 pm. Show begins at 7:00 pm sharp. All ages welcome; seating available. Sponsored by the Forum for Scholars and Publics.
