DIGNICRAFT

A Border Collective on Art and Activism

Ana Paola Rodríguez, Omar Foglio, José Luis Figueroa, and David Figueroa form DIGNICRAFT, a hybrid art collective, activist media production company, and distributor of cultural goods inspired by human dignity and justice, the artisan process of creation, and the potential of collaboration to spark change. The collective produces documentaries, distributes films and crafts with great stories behind them, and models a collaborative workshop as part of a contemporary art project.

In this conversation, the members of DIGNICRAFT will present and discuss their collaborations, including the short film Fotoperiodista: Documenting Tijuana’s Refugee Crisis (2017, 15 min.). The film portrays the work of Omar Martínez, a photojournalist from Tijuana who followed more than 8,000 Haitian migrants to that city as they sought humanitarian visas to enter the United States. The film depicts the Caribbean migrants as the new regulation cancelling the TPS (Temporary Protection Status) for Haitians comes into effect. The film features music by Phil Beaumont and Matt Resovich of Little White Teeth.

Free and open to the public. Light lunch served. This event will be in Spanish and English with simultaneous translation.
