Arts & Context/Black Atlantic Keynote

South African classical guitarist Derek Gripper — known for transcribing the intricate works of Malian kora master Toumani Diabaté for six-string guitar — kicks off Duke Performances’ second annual Black Atlantic festival with a keynote exploring the linkages between the musical and cultural traditions of West Africa and the Caribbean. Gripper will perform with his African Strings Project, featuring Congolese guitarist Jaja Bashengezi and Ugandan multi-instrumentalist Kinobe, at Motorco Music Hall on the evening of Monday, March 25.
