A Conversation with Natu Camara
Due to COVID-19, this event has been canceled.
Singer-songwriter Natu Camara, who has been heralded as the “Tina Turner of Guinea,” kicks off Duke Performances’ 2020 Black Atlantic festival with a special lunchtime conversation and demonstration at NorthStar Church of the Arts. Moderated by Duke professor and Black Atlantic scholar Laurent Dubois, the conversation will explore Camara’s career, influences, and longtime advocacy for women’s empowerment — including in her native Guinea, where her foundation seeks to provide strong role models and mentorship for girls. Camara will perform with her full band at Motorco Music Hall on the evening of Monday, April 6, showcasing her singular blend of afro-rock, pop, and soul. Tickets and info available HERE.
Free and open to the public. Light lunch provided by Pie Pushers. Arts & Context is co-sponsored by the Forum for Scholars and Publics at Duke University, The Pinhook, North Star, and Pie Pushers.
