Stephen Mihm

Stephen Mihm, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of History at the University of Georgia. He is author of A Nation of Counterfeiters: Capitalists, Con Men, and the Making of the United States, and co-author, with Nouriel Roubini, of Crisis Economics: A Crash Course in the Future of Finance. He is the co-editor, with Katherine Ott and David Serlin, of Artificial Parts, Practical Lives: Modern Histories of Prosthetics (NYU, 2002), as well as numerous journal articles and book chapters. He is currently working on two projects: a history of the standardization of weights and measures in 19th century America and an edited volume exploring the life of P.T. Barnum.

In addition to his academic writing, he has served as editor of the Echoes Blog for Bloomberg View, the opinion and editorial division of Bloomberg Media, and continues to write for the blog as well as for other news outlets. He has also been a project editor and contributor to the New York Times Magazine, and a contributor to The Nation. In March of this year, Professor Mihm was awarded the Harold F. Williamson Prize of the Business History Conference for his contributions to the teaching and writing of business history. He tweets at @SMihm.
