Michael Salgarolo

Michael Salgarolo is a Ph.D. candidate in History at New York University and a Global South Fellow at the New Orleans Center for the Gulf South at Tulane University. His dissertation, “Manila Bayou,” is a history of Filipino communities in Louisiana from the mid-nineteenth to the mid-twentieth centuries, focusing on themes of race, immigration, empire, and capitalism. As a public-facing scholar, he has developed public history experiences with organizations such as Caveat NYC and Atlas Obscura, and has appeared as an on-screen historical commentator for Buzzfeed News, Mental Floss, and Inverse.
