Kyle Abraham is an artistic director, choreographer & dancer from Pittsburgh, PA, who brought the Abraham.In.Motion dance company to fruition. A modern renaissance man, Abraham trained as a classical cellist and visual artist before turning his focus to contemporary dance. In 2015, Abraham was the receipient of the City Center Fellowship as artistic director. Previous awards include him being named a 2013 MacArthur “Genius” (choreographer), the 2012 United States Artist Ford Fellow, a Creative Capital grantee, and receiving the Princess Grace Award for Choreography (2010) and Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award (2012). In 2010, Abraham received a prestigious Bessie Award for Outstanding Performance in Dance for his work in ‘The Radio Show’. The previous year, he was selected as one of Dance Magazine‘s 25 To Watch for 2009. Dance Magazine praises his highly musical style, which “brings buried rhythms to the surface in swaths of luscious yet intricate movement.” In 2011, OUT Magazine labeled Abraham as the “best and brightest creative talent to emerge in New York City in the age of Obama.”
