Deborah S. Reisinger

Deborah S. Reisinger is Assistant Professor of the Practice in Romance Studies at Duke University, affiliate faculty in the Duke Global Health Institute, and Associate Director of the Markets and Management Studies program. She is Director of the Cultures and Languages Across the Curriculum (CLAC) initiative, offering courses in environmental studies, public policy, and global health in 8+ languages.

Reisinger teaches courses in French for Specific Purposes, including global health, business, and marketing. She is the author of Crime and Media in Contemporary France (Purdue Press, 2007) and Community-based Language Learning: A Framework for Educators, co-authored with Joan Clifford (Georgetown Press, 2018). She has also published numerous articles on language pedagogy, intercultural competence, and French for Specific Purposes. Her current research focuses on refugee resettlement and cultural and linguistic marketing.

Reisinger is Chair of the College Board’s World Languages Academic Advisory Committee and co-chair of the AP French Language and Culture Exam development committee. Since 2013, she has served as Chair of the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) Commission on French for Specific Purposes.

Reisinger regularly directs the Duke in Montréal summer program, which focuses on Quebec’s vibrant arts and cultural industries.
