A Conversation with Lurgio Gavilán

Lurgio Gavilán was a child soldier who fought in Peru’s Shining Path revolutionary movement and then the Peruvian army.  He is the author of the acclaimed new memoir When Rains Became Floods: A Child Soldier’s Story (Duke University Press, 2015) about his journey as a Quechua Indian village boy through the war years.  We will also be joined via Skype by Mikael Wikström, the director of Storm in the Andes, a new documentary about the war and memory in Peru, and the film’s main character, Josefin Ekerman.  The film will screen that night at 7 pm at White Auditorium on Duke’s East Campus as part of the Latin American and Caribbean Film Festival.
