Migrant Workers and the American Dream

A Conversation with Chelsea Hernández, Orin Starn, Cornelio Campos, and Arcadio Montoya

Film director Chelsea Hernández and Duke professor Orin Starn will talk about the situation of migrant workers in the United States as a preamble to the October 29th screening of the film, Building the American Dream. Professor Orin Starn led Duke’s Construction Worker Project, a collaboration between Duke undergraduates and local construction workers. Cornelio Campos addresses issues of migration, adaptation, segregation, and the (in)visibility of workers via paintings, murals, workshops, lectures, and community building. Building the American Dream will be shown on Tuesday, October 29, at 7 pm in the John Hope Franklin Center.

This event is part of the NC Latin American Film Festival and is free and open to the public. Light lunch provided beginning at 11:45 am. Co-sponsored by the Duke University Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies and the Forum for Scholars and Publics. Banner image: Struggle by Cornelio Campos.
