Lois Deloatch, Music Artist & Storyteller
In 2024, Lois Deloatch marked thirty years in music with Love Always, her sixth recording as leader. She is recognized internationally for her soulful contralto voice, provocative compositions, and eclectic blend of jazz, folk, blues, and spirituals. Deloatch writes and lectures on music, arts and culture, and she produced and co-hosted a jazz radio show, Sunday Evening Classics on WNCU (90.7 FM). The Independent Weekly said, “Lois Deloatch is more than a jazz singer. Her fluid interpretation of a vocalist’s role transcends being only a medium for the music. She often becomes a caretaker of the music’s history, an advocate of its redemptive power.”
Deloatch also has held distinguished careers in higher education and nonprofit management. Her work consistently bridges cultural expression, social impact, and economic empowerment. She serves on boards and advisory committees for numerous organizations working to strengthen communities and advance peace. Deloatch earned a Bachelor of Arts from UNC–Chapel Hill and the Master of Arts from Duke University.
