Talking Dance
A Conversation with Kyle Abraham and Jodee Nimerichter
Join us for a conversation at the Forum for Scholars and Publics with renowned artistic director, choreographer, and dancer Kyle Abraham, the director of the Kyle Abraham/Abraham.In.Motion Dance company, in advance of his company’s performance of When The Wolves Came In at Duke Performances on Friday, February 19, and Saturday, February 20. The conversation will be moderated by Jodee Nimerichter, director of the American Dance Festival. Kyle Abraham/Abraham.in.Motion’s previous pieces — Pavement & The Radio Show — both showed at the American Dance Festival. We’ll explore Abraham’s aesthetic vocabulary and the ways he has collaborated with contemporary African American visual artists, musicians, and composers in exploring questions of history and narrative around the struggle for Civil Rights. How is Abraham forging a new aesthetic in dance by drawing together a unique set of resources, collaborators, and references?
Free and open to the public. Light lunch served. Co-sponsored by Duke Performances and the Forum for Scholars and Publics.
