Richard Rabinowitz, Lynda Kaplan, Julia Gaffield, Phil Stern & Vincent Brown

A discussion with curators and historians about the ways History can be represented through exhibits, mapping, and other non-textual or para-textual forms.

Richard Rabinowitz and Lynda Kaplan of the American History Workshop spoke about their work as curators of major exhibits, including the Slavery In New York and Revolution! The Atlantic World Reborn at the New York Historical Society.

Julia Gaffield, Assistant Professor at Georgia State University & Post-Doctoral Fellow at Brandeis University, spoke about the contribution she made to the Revolution! exhibit during her time as a PhD student at Duke University.

Phil Stern, Associate Professor of History and Co-Director of the Border/Works Laboratory at Duke University, spoke about his work with students on the Nasher Museum exhibit Defining Lines: Cartography in the Age of Empire.

Vincent Brown, Charles Warren Professor of American History and Professor of African and African American Studies and Director of the History Design Studio at Harvard University, spoke about his work on an interpretive map of Tacky’s Revolt in Jamaica.
