Gender & Genre in Military Writing
with Matt Gallagher and Jessica Scott
Join us for a discussion with acclaimed writers Matt Gallagher and Jessica Scott. Gallagher and Scott are writers of fiction and non-fiction about military lives, and in their novels, both have portrayed soldiers’ romantic lives. Drawing on their own experiences in the military and as writers, they’ll talk about why they write, who the audiences are for their writing, and the role of gender and genre in the production and consumption of military-focused novels.
Earlier in the day, Matt Gallagher will talk about “Witnessing War” with Duke Divinity student and Iraq war veteran, retired Navy officer Giovanna Meek. This event, held in the Forum for Scholars and Publics space on Duke’s West Campus, is also free and open to the public. Please join us for both discussions with this exciting author.
