Europe at a Crossroads

Brexit, Upcoming Elections, and the Future of the EU

This year is proving to be a challenging one for the future of the European Union. The beginning of formal negotiations surrounding Brexit; upcoming elections in France, Germany and Italy; the ongoing refugee crisis and rise of populism; tensions with Russia and Turkey; and uncertainty about the future relationship between the EU and the new US administration are among the main challenges to the future of the EU, while it celebrates the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome.

Panelists include:

  • Andrea Renda, Centre for European Policy Studies
  • Antoine Ripoll, European Parliament Liaison Office
  • Ambassador Patrick Duddy, Duke Center for International and Global Studies
  • Giovanni Zanalda, Duke Center for International and Global Studies

This panel is the first of the “Observatory on Europe”series, a new initiative organized by the Duke University Center for International and Global Studies over the course of 2017-2018. Co-sponsored by Duke’s Center for International & Global Studies and the Forum for Scholars and Publics.
